Kindness Week 2022

group of students on kindness week

This week at Sunny Hills we celebrated Kindness Week. We hold an annual kindness week as part of the National Great Kindness Challenge. We take part in this movement to intentionally foster a culture of kindness that we believe sets a foundation for every child’s positive learning experience at school. We teach students that kindness is more than being “nice”, or treating others the way that we want to be treated. Kindness is about going above and beyond to treat others the way that they want to be treated.

Kindness week is not only about challenging students to engage in acts of kindness themselves, but to also recognize the kind acts of others. This year’s theme is “A Little Spot of Kindness”, based on the book by Diane Alber. When students see their peers being kind to others, they share a “spot of kindness” that is read aloud at lunch and posted on our kindness tree. It is so much fun to watch our tree bloom with spots of kindness

While we set aside this week to focus on kindness, our Sunny Hills community takes pride in a culture of kindness that we celebrate and encourage throughout the entire school year. Kindness, acceptance and inclusion are things we emphasize from the first day of school through the last. We aspire to be a community where each and every Mustang feels seen, safe and significant.

As we head off for Spring Break next week, we wish all our families a safe and enjoyable week away. We look forward to seeing all our Mustangs back at school on Monday, April 18!
