Gratitude Month at Sunny Hills

November is Gratitude Month at Sunny Hills! This year’s theme, “Sunny Hills Orchard of Gratitude,” invites students to reflect on the people and moments that make life sweeter. In the midst of challenges, it’s especially meaningful to pause and recognize the many things we have to be grateful for. I encourage you to take a moment with your Mustang to reflect on what those things are that speak to them.

One thing we are certainly grateful for is our amazing Sunny Hills PTA! A huge thank you to our incredible PTA for hosting this year’s Spooky Bingos and Brownies—it was a huge success, filled with laughter, treats, and community fun. We are so appreciative of our dedicated PTA volunteers and families who make these special events possible. Your partnership helps build the sense of belonging that makes Sunny Hills such a wonderful place to be!

We are also deeply grateful for Lily Foster, who has stepped in as the long-term substitute teacher in Gary Arthur’s classroom for the remainder of the school year. Lily has approached this role with empathy, compassion, eagerness, and confidence—helping to create a smooth transition for students and families during a difficult time. Her care and commitment embody the heart of our Sunny Hills community.

To kick off our Gratitude Month celebration, Mrs. Przybylski, Ms. Dorn, and Mrs. Schulenberg are sharing a message and schoolwide read-aloud of Apple Cake by Dawn Casey—a heartfelt story that reminds us to appreciate nature’s gifts and the kindness of those who help bring them to our tables. Through class discussions and reflection, students will have the opportunity to identify the people, places, and things that bring joy and meaning to their lives. Each grade level will contribute their own “gratitude ingredient” to our schoolwide Sunny Hills Orchard of Gratitude wall in the lunchroom, where a few will be shared aloud each day.

Families are invited to continue the theme at home by trying the Apple Cake recipe included at the back of the book—a delicious way to bake, share, and express gratitude together. Click here to find more ways to practice and celebrate gratitude as a family!

Veterans Day Assembly

We’re looking forward to honoring our veterans during our Veterans Day Assembly on Monday, November 10. Students have been preparing songs, letters, and artwork to express their appreciation. Families of veterans are warmly invited to attend as we celebrate and give thanks for those who have served.

No School – Tuesday, November 11 (Veterans Day Observed)

Parent–Teacher Conferences

November 12–13 - No School for Students
Parent–Teacher Conferences are a valuable opportunity to celebrate your child’s growth, discuss progress, and set meaningful goals for the months ahead. We look forward to meeting with each of you and strengthening the partnership between home and school that supports every child’s success.

A Season of Thanks

As we move into November, I want to express my heartfelt gratitude for our students, staff, and families. Your partnership, kindness, and commitment to our school community make all the difference. Every day, I see the impact of your support—in the smiles of our students, the collaboration of our teachers, and the joy that fills our halls.

Thank you for being part of the Sunny Hills family.
Together We Win—when we grow in gratitude.

With appreciation,

Cami Przybylski
