In communication with our ISD Safety and Security team, they shared several reminders for all of our fabulous volunteers and those who visit Sunny Hills throughout the school year. We are so fortunate to have the partnership and support of community volunteers, mentors and District staff that work to support our students and school. We are working hard to monitor visitors and volunteers to ensure that we can account for who is in our school building and in what locations throughout the school day. In addition to sticking to scheduled volunteer times and events, please note these reminders to support the safety of all of our students, staff and guests as well as for emergency procedures.
3rd, 4th and 5th Grade Families
This spring your student in grades 3-5 will take the Smarter Balanced tests in math and English language arts. Students in grade 5 will also take the Washington Comprehensive Assessment of Science (WCAS).
The results from these tests are one of many ways of understanding where students are in their learning, relative to grade-level learning goals in math, English language arts, and science.
Be sure to click for more information and practice tests.
It's that time again! The lost and found is overflowing, and many of the jackets waiting to be claimed have been there for a few months. The lost and found will be cleaned out and items donated next Friday, April 26th. Please encourage your child to check for any of their lost items. The racks will be on display during next week's STEM night, so please take a moment to stop by and look for any of your child's items.

The Cultural and Family Partnerships Team invites new families in the ISD, especially ones new to the U.S. school system to “Family Connections Question and Answer Sessions” on Wednesday, April 24. There are both morning and evening sessions.
This is an opportunity to meet the Family Partnership staff and learn to navigate our schools.
During Spring Break, our district received significant media attention regarding a student’s request to form an interfaith prayer club at Creekside Elementary School. Please know that we take our commitment to uphold student rights seriously; this includes those rights associated with religious exercise and liberty. Details about the approvial timeline for clubs at Creekside are enclosed.
In an April 2 meeting, members of the Bond Advisory Committee identified the priorities they think are important to the students, families, staff and community members they represent. Then, they began to discuss in small groups which projects might align with or support the priorities they would like to see addressed. This was the committee’s sixth meeting out of eight.
The King County Office of Emergency Management recently gifted 20 Bleed Control Kits to the district for use in our schools in the event of an emergency. Each Bleed Control Kit comes with eight individual bleeding control packs. This grant is worth approximately $17,000.
The Special Services Department is hosting a presentation for parents of students with disabilities on the topic of Financial Strategies and Estate Planning. The session will be from 5:30-7 p.m. on April 25 via Zoom. Details enclosed.
